In the lead-up to Psychology Week, the Australian Psychological Society conducted a survey to determine the level of stress or wellbeing felt by Australians. The survey was the culmination of a 5-year study. Some of the key findings of the study include:

  • 35% of Australians report having a significant level of distress in their lives;
  • 26% report above normal levels of anxiety symptoms;
  • 26% of Australians experience moderate to extremely severe levels of depression symptoms; and
  • In 2015, anxiety symptoms were the highest in the five years of the survey.

These are not encouraging numbers and serve to show the importance of events like Psychology Week and services such as Petrozzi Wellness Centre’s Wellness Psychology Services.

Unfortunately, the survey also discovered that too many Australians still try to self-manage high-level stress with alcohol (61%), gambling (41%), smoking (40%) and recreational drugs (31%). These are not solutions to psychological issues.

Different problems and individuals require different solutions. A trained and empathetic psychologist can help get to the root of a problem and help your overcome it. As the PWC Wellness Psychology page says:

“When you uncover protective layers of negative emotions, your reach an inner place… a place of love, wisdom, trust, power and freedom. This is the place we take you to step by step.”
